Aviation Medicals
A medical certificate is required for certain UK pilot licences and flying privileges. Altitude Aeromedical provides initial examinations, revalidations and renewals from our Farnborough clinic.
Initial medical examinations
If you are applying for your first medical certificate, your appointment will involve a structured medical assessment in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority requirements.
Your examination may include:
- Review of your medical history and current health
- Physical examination
- Vision assessment
- Hearing assessment, including pure-tone audiometry where required
- 12-lead resting electrocardiogram (ECG), where required
- Urine testing
- Other assessments where clinically or regulatory indicated
For an initial medical, a 12-lead resting ECG forms part of the examination.
Revalidation / renewal
If you already hold a medical certificate, Altitude Aeromedical can provide medical examinations for revalidation or renewal.
Revalidation normally applies when the examination takes place before your current certificate expires. Renewal applies once a certificate has expired.
The assessment required will depend on your age, medical history, the status of your current certificate and any relevant requirements.
What happens during your medical?
Your appointment begins with a review of the medical information submitted through the medical records system, Cellma.
Dr Simon Forrington will then undertake the appropriate clinical examination and any investigations required for your assessment.
Where the applicable medical requirements are met and no further information or investigation is required, certification may normally be completed following the assessment.
In some cases, additional medical reports, specialist investigations may be required before certification can be completed.
Prepare before your appointment
Completing the necessary preparation before attending can help your medical proceed efficiently.
Please read our Preparing for Your Medical page before your appointment.
